June 2016 - Clean water comes to Abeka
Like the people of Abeka, QCP UK knew that one of the major needs of the community and the Abeka hospital was for clean water. When we visited in 2014 we promised to do our very best to raise the money needed. With the help of Quaker charities, donations from meetings and individual donors, £70,000 was raised. In July 2015 work started, and there are now 13 stand-pipes serving the hospital, the school and all parts of the village.

The task is not quite complete. We need more money to equip the hospital with showers, washbasins and more toilets, but we have a tremendous sense of excitement in seeing the pictures of water flowing from taps when previously it had to be carried uphill from polluted sources.
Thank you everyone.
